Monuments have become a focal point for protest and activism in Chicago. In response, the city has created a process to review the city’s collection of monuments and recommend solutions. Of the 500 statues, plaques and friezes in Chicago, they’ve identified 40 as potentially problematic. They are also soliciting ideas for new markers.
Let’s learn about the process, talk about our feelings as familiar markers are criticized, and share our ideas about who and how to commemorate in our city. You can find the list of tagged monuments and lots of information about the process here.
