Campus Ministry

Blessings and Peace to you! My name is the Rev Kwame Pitts, and I am the NEW Campus Pastor for Lutheran Campus Ministries on U of C’s Campus!!
A bit of trivia about my name: Although most often people associate my name with someone of African Descent and male, I am the only Woman of Color in the North American context with the name, as a first name. I was also named after the first president of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah.

Having joined both the Augustana and the U of C community this summer, it has been rather busy as I have been working building relationships and establishing LCM as a resource for not only for the U of C students, but also for the wider Hyde Park neighborhood. Lutheran Campus Ministry is more than just a place where students are welcomed into a “home away from home” with regards to church and congregational life. LCM is a sacred, safe place where no matter who you are, your struggles with faith or vocation, whom you love or how you celebrate the Creator God, LCM is dedicated to allow our sisters, brothers, siblings and friends to be authentic. LCM is also redefining what Campus Ministry is, especially in this new movement of a radical Reformation, working towards transformative justice for all. Are there issues and concerns that you carry with you, whether you are student, faculty or neighbor and friend here in the academic consortium which stretches from U of C, to the many seminaries here in Hyde Park as well as the Interfaith community, that you would like for LCM to be involved or be immersed in?
