Whistler Woods

Whistler WoodsNine teens and adults had a fun trip on a beautiful day to Whistler Woods last week.  More than that, they learned about forest conservation and helped make the woods a healthier place. Did you know that forests can get too old? That some trees poison their neighbors in order to snatch all of the resources around them? Everyone cut blackthorn brush to allow new oaks to establish themselves, walked to the Little Calumet River to look for birds and baked stick bread over the fire. Many thanks to Chris Weber for organizing and leading this service project.

You can see more photos from the trip on Augustana’s Facebook page.
