Two former Augustana members, Erl Dordahl and Magdalene Spragle, supported Augustana’s ministry after their deaths with planned gifts, the proceeds of which Augustana recently received.
Magdalene made a gift through a life insurance policy that she purchased some years ago, with Augustana the beneficiary upon her death. She was also generous with her time, volunteering extensively at Augustana, and is remembered by many for her humor and friendship.
Erl made a gift through his will, a bequest, which will support Lutheran Campus Ministry. Erl and his wife, Millie, met during their college years through campus ministry and were leaders in campus ministry at Augustana during their lifetimes. Years ago, they gave the first gift to create the endowment that supports campus ministry at Augustana.
In addition to the financial support their planned giving provides, Erl and Magdalene’s gifts also offer us an example of the power of faith and the commitment to making a difference in Christ’s name.
There are many ways to make gifts after our deaths, for those of us with modest resources and those blessed with greater wealth. If you would like to discuss ways to support Augustana and the ministry of proclaiming Christ after your death, you may contact a member of the congregation’s stewardship committee (David Glover, Jim Vondracek, Marc Dukes) or our ELCA Foundation gift planner Tim Urness at 331-444-3120 or tim.urness@elca.org
