Chicago Chorale – Advent Vespers and Christmas Concert

Vespers for the First Week in Advent at Monastery of the Holy Cross

Saturday, December 3, 5:15 PM, Monastery of the Holy Cross, 3111 S. Aberdeen in the Bridgeport neighborhood.  — Vespers for the First Week in Advent.  Chicago Chorale joins the Benedictine monks of the monastery for a vespers service with a distinctly Advent, rather than Christmas, flavor.  The monks chant, the choir sings motets on Advent texts, and the groups join forces in responsorial psalms.  In one of the most breath-taking acoustic spaces in Chicago.  A service of quiet, prayerful reflection, away from the commercial hustle bustle of the season.  A rare and uplifting experience.

A Chicago Chorale Christmas!

Saturday, December 10, 8 PM, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Old Town, and Sunday, December 11, 3 PM, at Hyde Park Union Church, 56th and Woodlawn. Chorale presents a varied selection of the ensemble’s repertoire of recognized classics, audience favorites representing the Advent and Christmas traditions, and new music composed specifically for the holiday season.  And the audience is invited to join the choir in singing beloved carols, evoking the revelry, joy, and hope of the season.

Conducted by Augustana member Bruce Tammen, the group includes Augustana members and friends Joe Klonowski, Esther Menn, Ann Vikstrom, Andrew Lee, Paul Erling, and Jana French.  Tickets at chicagochorale.org or call 773-720-8497.
