This week commemorates the beginning of the 1919 Chicago race riots, the murder of 17-year-old Eugene Williams as he floated on a raft off of 29th Street Beach. Lookingglass Theatre created Sunset 1919: A World Premiere Short Film, to mark the event and remember the fallen.
Sunset 1919 is an 8 minute long spoken word piece performed and written by Ensemble Member and Mellon Playwright in Residence J. Nicole Brooks, with a musical selection from composer and cornetist Ben LaMar Gay, and a choreographed movement piece featuring artist Adeoye. Directed by Artistic Associate Wendy Mateo and Lorena Diaz.
