Dan Friedrich
Dan serves as CEO/CTO of Friedrich, Klatt and Associates and his avocation is comedy sketch writing, directing, and performing. He is a graduate of the Second City Conservatory and Improv Olympic, and his latest shows are “If Anyone was Offended: Campaign 2016,” and “Martin Luther: He’s done an amazing job, and is being recognized more and more”

For this iteration of Prose, Music & Beer, three church musicians are sharing their art with us:
Larry Long
A former Cantor at Augustana Lutheran Church, Larry served most recently as Organist and Choirmaster at the Church of the Epiphany in New York City. He has played and conducted at a number of other churches in Manhattan, including St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Bach Vespers, Chelsea Community Church, and many others. Active as a composer of music for liturgical use, his compositions are published by Augsburg Fortress, GIA, St. James Music Press, World Library, and Paraclete Press. He is the Registrar of the New York City Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and a member of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians and American Composers Forum.
Larry is sharing his composition “Christ, whose glory fills the skies,” a choral anthem that premiered virtually last August. The text is based on John Wesley’s (1707-1788) hymn beginning with the same first line of text.
Ostrega Uhl Project
An avid scholar of liturgical music, Stephen Uhl serves as Organist at The Union Church of Hinsdale. After earning his undergraduate degree at Luther College, he received the Artist Diploma in Piano Performance in the Spring of 2017 at Chicago College of the Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. The same year, he formed the Ostrega Uhl Project with Brian Ostrega, who has been performing professionally as a violinist for the past 10 years. Since graduating from University of Illinois and Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts, Brian has won orchestral seats in various Chicagoland orchestras including Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and Peoria Symphony Orchestra. In addition to performing as an orchestral musician, he has a growing music studio as a violin teacher at Blue Island Music and also is the Orchestra Librarian for Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Ostrega Uhl Project performs a wide range of repertoire, and aims to present educational, entertaining, and eclectic programs for all audiences. They will be sharing the first two movements of Handel’s D Major Violin Sonata.
Padraig McGuire
Padraig is Cantor at Augustana Lutheran Church of Hyde Park. An ordained pastor in the ELCA, he has credentials shared with the Philippine Independent Church (Anglican) and serves as Priest Associate to the Congregation of the Good Shepherd in Lincolnwood, IL. Having served two congregations in Florida, Padraig came to Illinois in 1999 and has assisted with the ministry of thirteen congregations here.
He holds a BMus from the University of Miami; an MTS in Church Music and an MDiv from Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus Ohio and engaged in post-graduate work in liturgy at Lutheran School of Theology. He has had the honour of studying voice with Lorene Buffington; composition with Donald Busarow, conducting with Daniel Moe and organ with May Swartz. A member of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, and sixteen years a singing member of the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus; Padraig is a Canadian and a former Latter Day Saint. There are stories!.
He is sharing a liturgical piece he wrote, “Litany and Salutation”, inspired by the Gloria from a Mass written by Juan Gutierrez de Padilla (1590-1664) in Puebla, Mexico. Padraig will be featured as organist and cantor, with Augustana singers, including soprano Mayuko Yasuda, alto Caroline Freeman, tenor Joe Klonowski and bass Hugh Vondracek.
