Thirty years ago, Augustana was one of the first ELCA Lutheran congregations to sign on to a program called Reconciling in Christ. We voted as a congregation to publicly affirm lesbian and gay Christians as our sisters and brothers in Christ. The landscape has changed a lot since then, and this year, the program is asking congregations to revisit the statements they made long ago and expand on them.
Adult Forum – Your Opportunity to Join the Discussion
In Adult Forum on September 14, 21 and 28, the pastors will lead discussion about our current statements, our denomination’s statement on sexuality and what’s happening in our wider church today. The discussion this Sunday, 9/21, will focus the biblical basis for the ELCA’s social statement Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust and on the denomination’s practices regarding LGBTQA+ people.
