God’s Work, Our Hands

Sunday, September 7
LSSI’s Walsh Recovery House

Our friends at Lutheran Social Services of Illinois have asked us as a congregation if we could take on a project for them on God’s Work, Our Hands weekend. This is a national weekend of service in our wider church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The Sunday that weekend is September 7.

LSSI has a house in Rogers Park, the Walsh Recovery Home, that is a place where women coming out of rehab can live a sober, supported life. LSSI would like us to tackle a couple of jobs to make the outside of the house more inviting for the women who live there. They would like us to remove a few old bushes and plant new ones, and prepare a wooden deck for refinishing. If we have enough volunteers, they would love it if we could paint an entryway.

If you would like to help in some way with this project, please sign up here or on the sign up sheet in the narthex. You can plan to come with others to Rogers Park after church on that Sunday and help plant and power wash. You can contribute money to help buy things like bushes and paint, or if you are a Thrivent member, you can apply for a volunteer project card.
