Adult Forum: Day Six and Praying the Hours

Coming up in the Sunday adult class, 9:45 – 10:30 a.m. in the conference room:

October 6 Augustana observes the Day of St. Francis, and our worship this day includes the Blessing of the Animals. The Adult Class is Day Six, after the day of creation in the Genesis 1 story on which God created both animals and humans. We’ll consider animals and in particular household pets in the life of Christian faith. Led by Bob Klonowski and Deb Burnet, sources will include the Scriptures – there’s quite a menagerie in that Bible! – and also the book Two Dogs and a Parrot, by the Benedictine nun Joan Chittister.

October 13 the Adult Class is Praying the Hours: What Monastic Life Can Teach Us. This will be led by Augustana’s Associate Pastor Matt Stuhlmuller, who has long maintained an interest in dedicated monastic life and who spent a week this summer in a monastic community in Michigan. Dedicated communities of prayer have been part of the Church for centuries; why have they been considered important, and what might they contribute to our own lives of prayer and worship?
