Guest Organist Evan de Jong

Augustana’s Cantor, Michael Terry Caraher, will be on vacation for Sundays July 21st and 28th.  In his stead, our guest organist will be Evan de Jong.  Evan is a student of organ performance and musicology at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio. He studies organ performance with Dr. Jonathan Moyer, and musicology with Dr. Steven Plank. He has also studied harpsichord and basso continuo with Dr. Mark Edwards.

Evan grew up in Oak Park, Illinois, where he studied organ with Dr. Kipp Cortez and Dr. Dennis Northway. A devotee of the music of the renaissance and baroque eras, Evan has traveled to Europe to attend organ lectures and masterclasses in early keyboard music led by Dr. Christiaan Teeuwsen (CA), Peter Westerbrink (NL), and Dr. Hans Davidsson (SE). Evan’s primary research interest is the liturgical music of Northern Europe in the seventeenth century.

Evan will be an Organ Scholar at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Cleveland, during the upcoming academic year. He has previously served as organist of First United Methodist Church in Elyria, Ohio, and as interim organist for Christ Episcopal Church in Oberlin.
