2024 Keith Cooper Fund Event Photos and Wrap-Up

On June 8, eighty-two attendees came together for the 2024 fundraising event for the Keith Cooper Fund, established two years ago, after Keith’s death, to provide grant support for young people, in an evening of music, art, food, handcrafted beer, and community.

As of this writing, donors contributed an additional $14,626 to the Cooper Fund via the event, through ticket sales, donations, sponsorships and silent auction purchases. Some funds are still coming in, and we estimate the total income will exceed $15,000.

Awards were announced to six more young people that evening, supporting them in their educational, vocational, artistic and entrepreneurial endeavors. Last year, three grants were awarded, bringing the total number of young people who have received support from the Keith Cooper Fund to nine. The awardees recognized at the event were:

  • Abdi Gunthoti, starting an associate degree at Malcolm X College in the fall.
  • AD wants to start a mobile bike repair business. He needs money to develop an app and a website.
  • Andry Gunthoti, one year into an associate degree at Malcolm X College.
  • Germin Sims works as an automotive technician. He’ll use the grant to buy tools. He wrote, “I run into situations where I need something and I don’t have the correct tools and I always have to use someone’s else’s floor jack.”
  • Maxwell Tolson-Montagano, freelance videographer, wants to buy a car to haul equipment and travel to more shoots, to grow his work into a full-time business.
  • Sheryl Immanuel, starting an associate degree at Malcolm X College in the fall.

The crowd enjoyed performances by jazz trumpeter Charles Pryor and spoken word artist and musician Me’Lo The Generation Hero and her band.
